Cerftificate in Plantsmanship
The Certificate in Plantsmanship is delivered through inspirational classroom-based lectures and garden visits and introduces students to the essential skills, knowledge and techniques of Plantsmanship.
Plantsmanship is both a science and an art: it requires both technical horticultural knowledge and an understanding of how plants grow, interact, and contribute to the beauty and health of the landscape.
Delivered over the autumn term from our home at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, this course is aimed at those with a love of plants, some horticultural knowledge and who wish to enhance their overall plant knowledge. It is a stand-alone course as well as being an excellent foundation for going on to study on our Garden Design Diploma or Planting Design Diploma.
Students will develop an in-depth understanding of plants, their diversity and habitats, as well as an appreciation of their individual characteristics.
The programme includes both lectures and guided garden visits by specialist horticultural and plant professionals with a wide knowledge and expertise from both the UK and abroad.
The wide-ranging syllabus includes basic plant biology and taxonomy along with identification skills, plant diversity, seasonality and an in-depth look at plant types and their usefulness.
