Fiona Silk
I’m a freelance project manager and graphics ninja, working for garden designers and small agencies on a freelance basis, crafting stunning visuals to show off their designs, creating clear plan and technical drawings, running projects, writing specifications and making excellent cups of tea. I also teach other people how to do the same, using SketchUp and Vectorworks, here at The London College of Garden Design, at Capel Manor College, as well as privately.

Biography:
I graduated from the college in July 2011. As well as achieving a distinction, I was also awarded the External Examiners Prize by Cleve West for my final project. Whilst at college I did two weeks work experience with Andy Sturgeon, and went on to freelance for various established designers, primarily Jo Thompson and Templeman Harrison. I was also asked by the RHS and Andrew Fisher Tomlin to design a stand for them at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2012, and was back there again in 2014 project managing the build of an 8 x 12m garden for Perennial, and again in 2016 helping my client Butter Wakefield do several projects for the RHS, planting the Bullring Entrance roundabout including a Fresh garden and dressing the Artisan Gardens area. These days my time is split between three or four core clients and teaching work.
In previous lives, I’ve got a BSc Hons. (2:1) in Computer Science, spent my days pan-frying foie gras and making sugar nests in a high-end restaurant, lived in a hammock in the rain forest for three months, and worked in advertising agencies for clients as diverse as the island of Jersey, RBS, T-Mobile and a global treasure hunt with a £100,000 prize. Before starting at LCGD, I lived in Japan for several years, teaching elementary school children and training in karate every day.
Because of my strong computer skills and client-facing project management background, I realised that I had a lot to offer as a freelance design, CAD and project management ninja, and my love of this was of working has lead me to fully embrace this lifestyle. I work with a range of designers and small companies, remotely or from their office. I bill by the hour, day or project, and am highly flexible.
I also now tutor at the college and have just started teaching for Capel Manor. I do a lot of private tuition, especially in Vectorworks, and take pride in being a patient, clear and methodical educator.
