I have worked in the Landscaping/Horticulture industry for almost 17 years. I have been involved with many aspects of the industry. From installing hard landscaping and driving diggers to nursery management and intricate planting schemes on show gardens. I have travelled to Singapore and Malaysia and throughout Australia and New Zealand to study the landscape and flora of these areas. I spent almost 12 months building gardens in Melbourne allowing me to learn about the amazing contemporary outdoor living spaces that Australia is famous for.
Before the course started, I was working for Peter Dowles Nursery as Nursery manager for 3 years. I spent a total of 4 years with Peters company. This has given me a good knowledge of plants and more importantly a knowledge of plant requirements as they all need very different care. During my time here I was very fortunate to be involved with 3 RHS Gold medal winning gardens. Two of these were at the famous Chelsea flower show under James Basson’s guidance. James taught me the art of looking close at the landscape, and then closer again… I wanted to learn how to become a professional designer and wrap all of my experience up into one package. I feel that once I have finished the course, I will be able to design gardens with confidence and a technical know how when bringing my designs to life.

This was a South facing suntrap that the client wanted to take full advantage of. The brief for me here was simply the word ‘Oasis’.
I set about creating a garden that provided privacy and offered a place to sunbathe whilst also surrounding my client with a lush planting scheme. We also incorporated a small water feature to create a relaxing atmosphere.
